What is a denture?

A denture is a removable set of artificial teeth that replaces missing teeth. Unlike crowns and bridges, which are permanently fixed in the mouth, a denture can be removed for cleaning.

There are two basic types:

Modern dentures today

Dentures have improved significantly over the last few decades. Modern materials enable thinner, lighter and more natural-looking dentures. Implant-supported dentures are also a good option today: a small number of implants are placed, to which the denture is anchored — this provides greater stability and comfort.

Getting used to them

A new denture requires a little patience. Speaking and eating may feel unfamiliar in the first few weeks. Over time, your mouth will get used to the new denture. Regular check-ups are important so that pressure points can be identified early on and the denture adjusted.
