Dental Hygiene Zug —
professional teeth cleaning.

Brushing your teeth every day is not enough on its own to keep your teeth healthy in the long term. Professional dental hygiene removes plaque that cannot be removed at home — making it one of the most important investments in your dental health.

What is dental hygiene?

Dental hygiene refers to the professional cleaning of teeth by trained specialists at the dental practice. It goes far beyond what can be achieved with daily brushing: tartar, hardened plaque deposits and staining caused by coffee, tea or nicotine are thoroughly and gently removed — even from areas that are inaccessible to a toothbrush.

Regular professional teeth cleaning is one of the most effective ways to prevent periodontitis and tooth decay — and is therefore one of the most cost-effective long-term choices for your dental health.

What happens during a professional dental cleaning?

Step 1

Initial assessment

We assess the current condition of your teeth and gums — tartar build-up, pocket depths and signs of inflammation. This gives us a clear picture of where we need to focus our attention.

Step 2

Tartar removal

Using ultrasonic equipment and fine hand instruments, we remove tartar and hard plaque — including from between the teeth and below the gum line.

Step 3

Polishing & discolouration

Soft deposits and discolouration are removed using a special polishing paste. The smooth surface subsequently makes it more difficult for plaque to re-accumulate.

Step 4

Fluoridation & Advice

A fluoride varnish protects the tooth enamel. Finally, we’ll give you personalised advice on how to improve your oral hygiene at home.

How often should you have a dental hygiene appointment?

We recommend a professional teeth clean every 6 to 12 months. Patients with periodontitis, an increased risk of tooth decay, or those with implants and fixed dentures should visit more frequently — in some cases every 3 months. We will determine the appropriate interval for you following an assessment.

Does a professional dental cleaning hurt?

Generally speaking, no. If you have sensitive teeth or inflamed gums, the treatment may be temporarily uncomfortable — we take a gentle approach and can use local anaesthetics to minimise discomfort if you wish. Please let us know if you have sensitive teeth.

How much do dental hygiene treatments cost in Zug?

The cost depends on the extent of the treatment and your individual condition. In the long term, prevention is significantly cheaper than treating gum disease or tooth decay. We’ll let you know the estimated costs in advance — transparently and with no surprises.

Daily tooth brushing removes soft plaque from the accessible surfaces of the teeth. Professional cleaning also removes hardened tartar, plaque beneath the gum line and in the spaces between the teeth — areas that are out of reach for a toothbrush.
In Switzerland, basic health insurance does not cover professional dental cleanings. Some supplementary insurance policies reimburse part of the cost. Please check your policy.
